Meet Colin

FEATURING:

Colin Strain '24
Colin would like to be remembered as someone who is trusting, caring, and “committed to what I do.”

After his first year at basketball camp at Loyola in second grade, Colin was hooked: He knew he wanted to be a Don.

As he progressed at Loyola through middle school and then upper school, Colin took full advantage of the opportunities Loyola offered to fully pursue his interests. As a result, he developed into an avid tennis player and made the All-MIAA team this season. He is also a member of the Service and Justice Club, as well as the model UN, and recently attended the Ignatian Family Teach-In weekend in DC.

After a shoulder injury sidelined him from tennis for a while, Colin quickly shifted his efforts and focus to the Global Mindedness and Inclusion Certificate Program. This, in turn, sparked an interest in travel, and the opportunities at Loyola to pursue his new passion were plentiful. Colin traveled to Peru sophomore year with his art history class and then to Rome with his Latin class. Most recently, Colin’s summer service project took him to Belize where he helped build houses. While there, the group had a chance to explore the coral reefs, an experience which Colin incorporated into his capstone project studying environmental degradation and global warming. After graduation, Colin will participate in a student exchange program in the UK, after which he intends to continue chasing his dreams of seeing the world.

During our Awards Assembly this April, Colin was the recipient of three major accolades, including the English Award-Winning Literature Award, Sheridan Medal for Classics and the Van Hollen Public Service Award. His next stop is the University of South Carolina where he plans to major in Classics in the Honors College with a focus on Latin. And, of course, he’ll be making time to fit in some tennis.
