As a faith-filled community dedicated to love and care for every member of our global family, we pray for the lives lost as a result of the senseless acts of violence that took place in Atlanta. Every life taken by violence born from hateful ideologies is a tragedy – one that shakes the foundations of our shared humanity and calls for justice, empathy, and a collective condemnation of all forms of hatred and bigotry. It is equally important that we denounce the abhorrent attitudes that lead to the objectification or victimization of women.
We stand in ardent solidarity with our Asian American and Pacific Islander students, families, alumni, staff, and all those who call our nation home. Any verbal or physical attack on them is an affront to the values we hold dear.
No individual, race, creed, nationality or gender should ever feel the scorn of discrimination nor face the brutality and horrors inflicted by those guided by a belief that any one life is less worthy of peace, dignity, and the abundant gifts of God's creation.
In the midst of this tragedy, let us pray that a new chapter in our nation's history can emerge – one composed with empathy and compassion. As a community of shared values and a common voice for hope, peace and justice, please join us in prayer:
Loving God,
Welcome into your arms the victims of violence and terrorism.
Comfort their families and all who grieve for them.
Help us in our fear and uncertainty,
And bless us with the knowledge that we are secure in your love.
Strengthen all those who work for peace,
And may the peace the world cannot give reign in our hearts.
