Dons Help Organize First Interscholastic Summit on Racial Justice

To celebrate the start of Black History Month, several of our students, faculty, and staff took part in the very first student-led Interscholastic Summit of Reflection, Discussion, and Prayer on Racial Justice after school yesterday to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy.

This regional event united more than 80 members from Jesuit schools including Loyola Blakefield, Cristo Rey Jesuit High School, Georgetown Preparatory School, and Gonzaga College High School to examine through a theological lens Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s approach to racial justice and its application today. The summit fostered an environment of discussion about current perspectives through breakout sessions and culminated in a revitalized call to action so that attendees could return to their communities with a collective vision and vigor to fortify racial justice and Catholic social themes.

This interscholastic prayer service served as an important segue from the celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day in January by ensuring that our school communities remain committed to racial justice year-round. A special thank-you to our Service & Justice Committee members David Adebogun ’22, Kintrez Fowlkes '21, Toni Akintola ’22, Caden Heiser-Cerrato ’22, and Peter Lukish '21 for helping to organize this event for our collective Jesuit school community.
