Blake Henry ’98 to Serve as Interim Head Football Coach

Blake Henry ’98 will be leading the Dons on the gridiron this fall as Interim Head Varsity Football Coach. In the wake of Coach Anthony Zehyoue’s departure to join the staff at the Naval Academy Preparatory School, Henry brings his extensive coaching experience to the program, which is coming off a season that saw a return to the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) A Conference playoffs and a victory in the annual Turkey Bowl. At the conclusion of the 2024 season, the school will proceed with a robust search for its next head football coach.

 

In addition to his duties as Director of Athletics, Henry will lead the program he thrived in during his time as a student in the late '90s, which included three MIAA A Conference titles (1995, 1996, 1997). During his senior year, he was named 1st Team All-State, All-Metro, and All-Conference and was an honorable mention on the USA Today All-American squad.

Henry’s coaching career began at Loyola, serving as Defensive Coordinator and Offensive/Defensive Line Coach from 2005 to 2010. During that time, the Dons earned three conference titles, including an undefeated 2008 campaign. He then served as Head Varsity Coach at Mount Saint Joseph High School from 2010-14 before stops at The Potomac School (VA) and St. Andrew’s School (GA).

 

A 2022 inductee into the Loyola Blakefield Athletics Hall of Fame, Henry was a 1st Team All-ACC Selection during his time at Wake Forest University. He was also recognized with the Bill George Award as best lineman in 2002 and was the 2001 Brian Piccolo Scholarship Award recipient. He went on to pursue a professional career via a free agent contract with the Atlanta Falcons in 2003.
