We are pleased to announce the hiring of Mr. Dionino “Danny” Breda as our new varsity rugby coach. Prior to Loyola Blakefield, Breda served as the assistant forwards and defense coach for the First XV and head 7s coach at Mount St. Mary’s University from 2016 to 2019. He also served as the JV head coach and varsity assistant coach at Gonzaga College High School for the 2017 season.
Breda grew up in Westminster, MD, where he attended Westminster High School. He was recruited by Arkansas State University where he played in two USA Rugby D-I National Semifinals and received a BS in Exercise Science. He currently manages Becton Dickinson's corporate fitness center in Sparks, MD. Outside of rugby, Breda enjoys exercising, fishing, cooking, and just spending time outdoors.
"I'm both humbled and excited to join a program, institution, and community of such high regard as Loyola Blakefield," said Breda. "I truly believe rugby is a game about life, and it takes men and people for others to be successful and have fun. I know I'm in the right place. Roll Dons!"
“Danny is young, energetic, and passionate about the sport of rugby,” said Director of Athletics Brant Hall ’98. “His experience playing and coaching at the high school and collegiate levels will be extremely beneficial for the guys in our program. Most importantly, Danny is goal-oriented and lives by values that align with Jesuit education. He is a good man, and I’m excited for him to lead our Dons on the pitch.”
