Michael Iampieri Named an Honorary Member of the Class of 1970

A beloved member of Loyola Blakefield's faculty from 1966 to 2007, Michael Iampieri was named an honorary member of the Class of 1970 during our 169th Commencement this June.

During his tenure, Mr. Iampieri founded the school’s art department and taught art to generations of young men over four decades. Through his engaging demeanor and persistent, gentle persuasion, Mr. Iampieri modeled in and out of the classroom that openness to growth and the spark of imagination are cornerstones of a rich, rewarding, and spiritual life. The Michael J. Iampieri Award is presented during our commencement ceremony each year to a graduating senior who has demonstrated personal and spiritual growth through his pursuit of creative self-expression and his achievements in the fine arts.

During his commencement address, President Anthony Day announced the recognition. "These Dons made this decision in a proclamation that was sent to Mr. Iampieri stating, 'The members of the Class of 1970 still feel his positive impact on our lives fifty years later.'"

Several alumni recently put together the following tribute for Mr. Iampieri.
